The Tibetan Sacred Arts tour passed through Norwalk this past week and spent five days creating a three-dimensional sand painting before pouring it into the Long Island Sound Saturday.
The Tibetan monks were invited to southwestern Connecticut by the Wilton Quaker Meeting to educate residents about world peace and human understanding through their art. According to the monks, they create and destroy their sand paintings, which are called mandalas, to symbolize the impermanence of life.
The monks say they'll be back to create a mandala at the University of Connecticut in March before traveling to New York City, Philadelphia and New Jersey.
