Last night the Torrington Board of Education voted for a dress code for staff members.
Michael Wilson, the superintendent of schools, said the policy clarifies what the staff can't wear ripped jeans, sandals, flip-flops and tank tops or low-cut tops.
He said it's important for the teacher to look professional since students view them as role models.
"Our students look up to our staff, and our students are our next generation. They're our next leaders, right? And when they go out, we want them to interview and dress for success," said Wilson. "So, if they're going to dress for success, who do they look to? The adults that they're around daily. And those adults are all of our staff members."
Wilson said a dress code was recently approved for students.
The new policy takes effect immediately.
