Some members of the Stratford Town Council are hesitant to accept an offer of nearly $1 million in federal stimulus funds because they anticipate having to pay it back through a contractual obligation.
The council voted at a meeting Monday night to discuss the issue in two weeks.
Mayor Jim Miron is urging the town to accept the funds provided through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service because the money would go toward the removal of abandoned Long Beach West cottages. Those structures have caught fire twice in the last 16 months.
Miron adds that the town is at risk of losing the money to another community if they wait two weeks to make a decision.
