The owner of a vacant lot on Ogden Avenue -- one that for years featured a trash- and rodent-filled flea market -- has finally cleaned up the site.
Community activist Agnes Johnson was concerned for the health of the community.
"People were purchasing things from here, so they were taking fleas and whatever else into their home," Johnson said.
She contacted local leaders and even confronted the property owner. In December, the Health Department ordered the owner to clean it up. Johnson says he finally did it a few weeks ago.
"I'm happy it's cleaned up because there's no more rats," a Highbridge resident said.
A representative for the property owner, Ogden Realty, said they haven't decided what to do next with the lot.
"It could be another flea market, but one that's clean and organized," suggested one resident.
