Halloween came early this year as scary ghosts and super-heroes alike took to the streets of Westport in the pursuit of fun and treats Wednesday.
Hundreds of children took part in a safe, family friendly Halloween parade and trick-or-treating event that started outside the Westport YMCA. With all the children in the area, police temporarily closed off area roads.
Merchants on Main Street also got into the action, some dressing up in costumes of their own and handing out candy to children.
Several parents said that they appreciate the event because it is a great way for their children to enjoy the festive day in a safe way.
?You know they're safe and you see many people you already know,? said Connie Montali, of Westport. ?The kids love it because they see their friends ? it's great."
