Fire officials say a structure fire was reported on Clarendon Avenue near Lockwood Avenue in Yonkers.

"I ran up and there was already black smoke billowing out of the windows,” says Kenny Carter, who lives in the building.

It happened around 6 p.m. Thursday.

"My mom just started smelling smoke. We looked outside, next thing you know smoke everywhere," said a neighbor.

The fire happened on the third floor of a multifamily home, according to fire crews.

Officials say everyone made it out safely. Several firefighters have minor injuries, according to officials.

The extent of the damage is still being assessed.

The Red Cross is helping the impacted residents.
