Officials are asking the public for help in an ongoing search for a retired corrections officer who they say failed to appear at a criminal trial on human trafficking charges.
According to the Attorney General's Office, Kurt Young, 56, was supposed to be in court to face human trafficking charges in September 2023, but he never showed.
Officials say a 14-year-old victim was being trafficked and sexually abused by 30-year-old Derek Ross, of Atlantic City, and 43-year-old Tiffany Davis, of Egg Harbor Township. Young was indicted back in 2020 for allegedly paying Ross and Davis to bring the victim to his house in Dennis Township for sex.
Back in 2020, officials say a state grand jury brought an indictment against all three defendants for human trafficking-related charges. Ross and Davis both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit human trafficking and facilitating human trafficking. Ross was sentenced to 20 years in state prison and ordered to pay a $15,000 fine. Davis was sentenced to 15 years in state prison.
Officials say Young was due to be tried on his charges, including conspiracy to commit human trafficking, engaging in prostitution with a child, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Officials say he failed to appear during jury selection, and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
If anyone has information on the whereabouts of Young, they should contact 1-877-WANTED-2. The U.S. Marshals are offering a cash reward for any information leading directly to his arrest.
