Recalled meat and poultry products that were possibly contaminated by listeria were shipped to about a half a dozen Long Island schools, according to a report by the USDA Food and Safety Inspection Service.

The schools that recalled food was sent to include the following:

  • Brooklyn Avenue School, Valley Stream

  • New Hyde Park Road School, New Hyde Park

  • Roosevelt Children's Academy Charter School, Centennial Avenue, Roosevelt

  • Roosevelt Children's Academy Charter School, Pleasant Avenue, Roosevelt

  • Robert Carbonaro Elementary School, Valley Stream

  • William L. Buck School, Valley Stream

Several of the schools sent letters to parents letting them know about the recall. The New Hyde Park Garden City Park Union Free School District told parents, “The specific meal in question is the "fajita chicken bowl, rice, bean, & tomato salad", served on September 19, 2024, in all four schools.”

The Valley Stream School District's letter to parents stated that their "chicken with barbecue sauce meal" was recalled.

The USDA has recalled over 11 million pounds of BrucePac’s ready-to-eat meat produced from May 31 to Oct. 8.
