A Bridgeport woman is asking for help Friday after she says her brother, a veteran in Kuwait, was convicted and sentenced to death for smugglings drugs.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal says the State Department confirmed that veteran Jermaine Rogers has been sentenced to death by hanging for smuggling cocaine.
Blumenthal says he is troubled by the trial and calls it inadequate, adding the sentence was unfair and unprecedented.
He says he's trying to get in touch with top officials in the State Department.
Officials are hoping they can negotiate with the Kuwaiti government to reduce Rogers' sentence.
