A vaccination clinic for veterans opened in Orange today, officials say.
The clinic is at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System Annex at 200 Edison Road.
There is a push to get veterans in Connecticut vaccinated, officials say.
The clinic will be open again Friday from 1 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
The clinic is walk-in format, meaning veterans do not need to schedule an appointment.
However, vaccines are available on a first come, first served basis.
Veterans of all ages who are enrolled in the VA health care system are eligible to get vaccinated at the site.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal says around 48,000 veterans are enrolled in Connecticut.
The goal is to vaccinate 70% of them.
"Making vaccines available to everyone who is enrolled in VA health care system is just stunning. It is a great national success story, and I think we can take lessons from it," Blumenthal says.
To maintain social distancing, veterans are asked to come alone if possible.
There will be another clinic at the VA in West Haven on Saturday.
