A wake was held in Bridgeport Friday night for a teen killed in a double fatal crash in Shelton last weekend.
Friends and family of Shalymar Herrera paid their respects at the Community Funeral Chapel on Park Avenue.
The 18-year-old was killed Sunday when police say the mini-cooper she was riding-in crashed head-on into a Saturn in Shelton.
Her family says she graduated from Bridgeport Military Academy last year and had just completed basic training in the U.S. Army.
Police say her fellow passenger Briana Carter, who was in the final trimester of her pregnancy, was also killed, while driver Lawrence Carter was critically injured.
Friends of Herrera's say she will be deeply missed.
"I was heartbroken, totally heartbroken. I'm a parent leader here in Bridgeport so to know that one of our students that just recently graduated passed away so suddenly, so young, just broke my heart, it completely broke me down, I have a 13-year-old so it resonated with me," says Chaila Robinson of Bridgeport.
The family says Herrera's body will be flown today to Puerto Rico where she will be buried.
