Water levels have been increasing in reservoirs and lakes in western Connecticut due to rain, Aquarion reservoir officials say.

Officials also tell News 12 Connecticut that the spill level at the Aquarion reservoir is just below 1 foot.

Aquarion says levels at its reservoirs in Stamford and Greenwich are already up above the 20-year average.

Officials say the average rainfall per month in Connecticut is 4 inches, but the state has already experienced 3 inches of rain so far this month.

Select towns like Greenwich and Darien still have to abide by their weekly irrigation restrictions.

The National Weather Service says the rainiest August on record in Connecticut was in 2003, with 6.19 inches.
