April is Earth Month and one local company created a sustainable solution for people planning to move and daily usage at industrial companies across the state.
Typical cardboard can be used one time before being put in recycling, but with packed corrugated cardboard – customers can use it dozens of times before they recycle it, making them much more environmentally friendly.
Rodger Mort, the COO of Packaging and Crating Technologies, or PACT, says his product helps the environment and your wallet.
"The wood can take a long time to break down…the plastics, some never break down,” he said.
His reusable and recyclable corrugated cardboard containers for the commercial, industrial and military sectors are manufactured in Waterbury.
"When the guys are shipping a lot of stuff or air freighting a lot of stuff, they're saving two-thirds of the weight, which is saving on fuel," he said. "They do about 900 million tons of waste in a typical year, just from making moves."
Jim Carey, with Clancy Relocation and Logistics, says his moving and storage company uses millions of boxes a year, and PACT helps them to be more environmentally friendly.
"All of our big customers want us to demonstrate how we're being stewards of the environments. So were looking for solutions that are environmentally friendly," Carey said.
