Wegmans grocery store held a major hiring event for its new location in Norwalk – the first in Connecticut.
"Being a part of this is really exciting," said Mekisha Cazy, from Norwalk, who is looking for a job in customer service. "I'm really good with talking to customers and experiencing their needs."
Wegmans is filling 500 positions for the new store, including full-time customer service positions and select part-time positions.
“We'll give you a computer to apply and we'll interview you same day and it kind of makes the process a little bit quicker," said Wegmans Norwalk Store Manager Emily Reynolds. The suite where the interviews are taking place was packed with applicants. Available positions included entry level management and food service roles in culinary and perishable departments. "Something unique to Wegmans is we look for a values match. We want somebody that fits into our culture. We can teach you how to do everything else," said Reynolds.
The Norwalk Wegmans is scheduled to open next summer.
