West Haven police say a chase ensued Wednesday after authorities tried to flag down a vehicle believed to be connected to several robberies and purse snatchings in the state.
They say the vehicle, which had been stolen, was seen exiting I-95 by Exit 43. Officers then found the vehicle traveling near First and Mix avenues and tried to stop it.
Police say that at the intersection of Campbell Avenue and West Spring Street, the vehicle had nowhere to go due to traffic and crashed into several other vehicles.
They say the operator fled on foot while the second occupant of the vehicle was being apprehended.
Police say the operator then returned to the scene, stole a police car and hit several officers then accelerated, causing another officer to use an evasive maneuver to get out of the way.
The vehicle then drove through a fence at the Oak Grove cemetery. The operator then tried to escape when he was finally apprehended.
Police say both individuals are juveniles. Two officers were transported to an area hospital for injuries not considered life-threatening.
