Several police departments throughout Western Connecticut are participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
Police say they had to cancel the event in April due to the pandemic, but have created a safe way for residents to drop off unwanted prescriptions this fall.
According to a 2018 national survey on drug use and health, 9.9 million Americans misused prescription drugs.
Police say events like Drug Take Back Day let people get drugs out of their cabinets, no questions asked, and prevent them from getting in to the wrong hands.
"Parents may have had a surgery a long time ago, and there are kids learning more stuff online than people realize be a question or a future problem," says Marilisa Anania, of the Milford Police Department.
The Senior Center in Milford is functioning as one of the state’s drive-thru, contactless drug drop-offs.
