After 95 years of unforgettable performances, Westport Country Playhouse is wrapping up its anniversary season with one of the greatest mysteries ever written.

A beloved New England theater since 1931, the Playhouse has evolved from a Broadway tryout stage into a celebrated regional theater and cultural cornerstone. To close its 2025-26 season, the Playhouse is staging Agatha Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, a classic whodunit marking the 100th anniversary of the novel’s publication. Widely regarded as one of the finest mystery novels ever written, the story continues to captivate audiences with its twists, suspense, and unforgettable ending.

Productions like this underscore the important role regional theaters play in making the arts accessible and bringing communities together through shared experiences.

“The quality of the work is at least as good, if not better, and it’s accessible,” said Mark Silence, an actor in the production. “You get to be with your neighbors and your friends and take part in something that is a real community event. This show elicits responses from the audience. Gasps, and occasionally even tears.”

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd runs through Aug. 1.
