The Westport community has come together to help people impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles.

Westport Moms started a donation drive Wednesday to collect clothes, bedding and items for babies and pets.

The drive was meant to be held Wednesday and Thursday and people could bring their donations to the UPS store at 606 Post Road East.

Organizers say due to community support by Wednesday afternoon, the number of donations doubled what they aimed to collect.

Those donations were enough to fill four pallets.

Due to the response, donations were put on pause.

All items will be shipped out of the store by Monday and will be sent to a YMCA in the Los Angeles area.

Owner Don Curtis says it feels amazing to help.

"Once again, the Westport Moms they put everything together and helped me with everything. And now we're just giving back to the community and trying to help the best we can," he says.

Curtis says it will take seven to 10 days from the day the items are shipped to reach Los Angeles.
