Community members are invited to visit the Farmer’s Market and Museum of
Contemporary Art as they debut their newest exhibit.
The latest exhibit is called "Between the Ground and
Sky," where local photographers aim to make attendees think more
about their connection to nature and where their food comes from.
The center features a series of 50 pictures by local photographers Anne
Burmeister and Ashley Skatoff. The two artists highlight people who work hard
to obtain local organic food out of the ground and sound.
Bermeister
says she was so fascinated with the local famers' work, she almost forgot to
take pictures at times.
"These farmers are inspiring, they're also beautiful. The work is
beautiful. And I hope that we've been able to capture that,” says
Bermeister. “I
am a storyteller with my photography and the stories are in the who.”
Westport Farmer's Market Executive Director Lori Cochran-Dougall says the
exhibit started as a social media campaign, saying in part, “When I look at
these photos, I am immediately impacted through emotion because I see people
who have a love of their work."
According to the executive director, the idea was derived several years ago
when she was
constantly trying to get people to think about who grows their food - hence the
title.
Bermeister tells News 12 she believes the closer society is to food sources,
the better for the planet - and the more people will enjoy eating them.
"I mean, truly the pleasure in eating food when you know where it comes
from, when you know the person who handled it, when you know the person behind
it - it actually tastes better,” says the food photographer.
The exhibit is available now until Oct. 17.
