Some woods in Westport are being transformed, thanks to the efforts of volunteers who decided to replace trees that were creating a home to the spotted lanternfly whose preferred host is the tree of heaven.
Long Lots Preserve says the goal is "to plant large populations of native flora to out-compete the non-natives."
The group is applying for a state grant so they can expand their project.
