One Westport nonprofit is making sure local families have a fun, safe place to spend New Year's Eve.
The Westport Historical Society is set to host the First Light Festival next Monday at the society and other locations in town.
The celebration will take place from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m.
The event was made possible by the Westport Historical Society after the town’s annual First Night Celebration was canceled due to a lack of funding.
"The community was so disappointed that First Night was not going to happen,” said Ramin Ganeshram, of the Westport Historical Society. “We felt it was our responsibility as a nonprofit in the community. Our mission is to serve the community, our mission is to provide opportunities."
Event attendees will be able to enjoy face painting, food trucks and live performances.
The society is expected to announce more additions to the event after Christmas.
