Westport police say the suspect behind a recent string of burglaries has been arrested.
Police had issued a warrant for Xavier Medel, 19, of Bridgeport, on Thursday. They say Medel broke into an unlocked car and a home on Sandhopper Trail while the family was sleeping and took a laptop, backpack, purse and various credit cards that were later used in Norwalk.
Police add that other nearby homes were also hit.
Medel was apprehended Friday night. He was being held on $250,000 bond.
Neighbors were stunned that someone would try to rob them, but still feel safe in their quiet part of town.
"We are in Westport, so you know, got good police behind us, and neighbors are great and everybody's looking out for one another," says resident Larry Galbo.
Police say they are seeking additional suspects in the case.
