The construction of a new fence around an historic Revolutionary War statue is sparking debate in Westport. Town officials say they replaced the fence around the Minuteman Statue on Compo Beach Road after noticing it had been falling over. The fence cost around $8,000. Some residents say the old fence was integral to the monument and would like to see it restored. Others say the new design is a welcome change to a statue untouched since 1910.
