Students in Westport got the opportunity Saturday to learn about volunteering and giving back at a very young age.
After raising enough money to get a new playground, Westport PTA members say they couldn't just get rid of the old one.
"We felt like it was really irresponsible to just trash what is a perfectly good playground and to send it into a dump," said Sara Snow.
A group of volunteers spent Saturday morning removing their playground with a new home for it in mind, possibly in Haiti or in Uganda.
They partnered with the nonprofit Kids Around The World, which matches playground units with a new home across the world.
Along with the playground will come hundreds of notes from the elementary school students, detailing their favorite memories and experiences from the playground.
