This week's "What's Ailing You" looks at mental health issues among young people.
A concerned Stratford resident questions whether teens are getting the help they need. She says she has heard of too many cases in which their problems are overlooked, or their treatment is limited to pills.
Dr. Aaron Krasner, of Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, says that it's proven that there's a relationship between mental and physical health.
Combined medication and talk therapy often help, Dr. Krasner says. But before that can happen, he says it's important that people identify signs of mental health problems.
Such signs include low mood, lost interest in things someone used to enjoy, fear of social interaction or school, tension, nervousness or worry, Dr. Krasner says.
