This week's "What's Ailing You" focuses on pneumonia.
A young viewer from Wilton wants to know how she contracted the lung infection two years ago. Emilie Aylward, 8, says her case was short-term and not serious.
Doctors say if pneumonia is not treated early, however, the infection can become severe and even fatal. They say pneumonia can stem from a virus, bacteria or fungus.
Dr. Stuart Silverstein, of Stamford-based Firefly After Hours Pediatrics, says parents should be vigilant about germ control. He also stresses the importance of getting your child to a doctor if they have heaviness in their chest or trouble breathing.
