A black graduate student at Yale University recorded an encounter between herself, a white student and police that has stirred the national debate on race relations.
According to university police, the black student, Lolade Siyonbola, says she was napping in a common area of her dorm when the white student called police on her.
They say the white student did not know who Siyonbola was.
When police arrived, Siyonbola began streaming the encounter on Facebook Live. In the video, she says she is a student, tells officers she belongs in the area and eventually shows them her ID.
Police confirmed she was a student and let her go. The entire incident took place between around 1:45 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
In a Facebook post, university police concluded that the incident was not a police matter and Siyonbola had every right to be there.
The encounter has raised concern among students about possible racism. Students say they're told that the campus will have anti-racism and inclusion events. Black Lives Matter New Haven was asked to join them.
