Windsor High School student dies after losing consciousness at football practice

The school says Elijah-Jay Mariano Rivera was not engaged in any football drills or tackling.

A Windsor High School student has died after losing consciousness at a football practice Tuesday.
According to the high school, Elijah-Jay Mariano Rivera lost consciousness during practice. He later died at Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford.
Windsor High School superintendent Terrell Hill confirmed the death in a letter to district families. Rivera's teammates held a vigil Tuesday night in his honor.
The school says Rivera was not engaged in any football drills or tackling.
Police and EMTs came in to provide CPR before he was taken to the hospital.
The school has made crisis teams available for students and staff at Windsor High School and Sage Park Middle School. School officials further added that the community will support Rivera's family however it can.
