Norwalk firefighters say an elderly woman has died after being badly burned in a fire Wednesday.
The fire broke out late Wednesday morning on Ely Avenue.
Firefighters say the 85-year-old was found in her bedroom. She was burned on 90 percent of her body.
Investigators are still looking for the cause of the fire. They say that although the home had smoke detectors, the woman was bedridden and unable to escape the flames on her own.
Capt. Adam Markwitz says several people, including the woman's nurse, who was home at the time, attempted to rescue her. Norwalk police say the victim's nurse left the home during the fire to seek help, and will not be charged.
Firefighters returned to the scene Thursday afternoon and talked with neighbors about fire prevention.
