Police say they found a woman dead in her Stamford home Monday morning after her husband called 911.
She was in her 70s and lived at 315 Hycliff Terrace in the Westover neighborhood, police say, where she was declared dead.
Police did not immediately explain how she died or whether there was any foul play.
Police told neighbors it wasn’t a robbery. The homeowners association sent out an email that there was no threat to the neighborhood.
A neighbor told News 12 that she saw the husband covered in blood and with a bruise on his face. He was taken to the hospital too.
"I saw him walking out with a white shirt on, bloody, with a bruised eye and a bloody head," said Marika McLaughlin, the neighbor.
McLaughlin said the husband left in an ambulance and hasn't returned.
Property records show the home belongs to Allen and Eden Claxton. Neighbors described them as quiet and kind people who often took walks and worked on their garden.
Police say the incident wasn't a robbery. And the homeowners' association sent out an email to neighbors saying that there was no threat to the neighborhood.
"What's behind a closed door, you never know," McLaughlin said.
