A woman was hit and killed by an Amtrak train in Fairfield yesterday.
It happened last night at the downtown Fairfield train station near Unquowa Road.
Police say they think she decided to get down and cross the tracks instead of walking to a nearby bridge.
Fairfield Police Chief Gary McNamara said the 30-year-old woman was on the northbound side of the train station and wanted to be on the southbound side and decided to cross the tracks.
The chief say the woman saw the train coming and quickly tried to save herself but ducking under the platform but was still struck.
