A woman is recovering Monday after being shot in the torso by an arrow Sunday.
Police say they are searching for the suspect who shot an arrow into the air near an assisted living complex in Riverdale. According to authorities, the arrow pierced 52-year-old Denise Delgado-Brown in the stomach as she was helping her two friends get out of the car.
Residents say the neighborhood, which is also home to a nursing home behind the assisted living complex, is typically safe and quiet.
Delgado-Brown, who is from Yonkers, was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital and remains in stable condition.
A spokesperson from the New York City Parks Department says laws prohibit anyone except an on-duty police officer or peace officer from carrying or possessing slingshots or missile-propelling instruments. The spokesperson says one exception is permit-issued archery competitions.
