Hundreds of construction workers from all over Connecticut took to the streets in Stamford Friday to protest the hiring of out-of-state contractors for a project.
Construction workers from various trades say they are being shut out of the Harbor Point Waterfront project in Stamford. The project is being developed by the Norwalk-based Building and Land Technology company, which has hired contractors from Texas.
Fairfield County Building Trades President Kevin Byrnes calls the exclusion a slap in the face to Connecticut contractors.
Byrnes says the Texas contractors are paid less than the standard wages for the area, and that Connecticut contractors could use the work due to the state of the economy.
