A ceremony was held in Stamford this morning to award Marine Master Sgt John Gaes the medals he earned serving in WWII.
Gaes commanded an armored platoon of tanks during four campaigns in the Pacific, including Iwo Jima.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal was able to arrange the awards after hearing Gaes' story.
He says those who give back to their country deserve to be recognized.
Gaes say he did receive a few medals when he returned home after the war, but they were lost following several moves.
