Members of the Yale Law School community are offering mixed reaction to the selection by former President Donald Trump of a Yale Law School graduate to be his running mate.

Trump announced Monday he's selected junior Ohio Sen. JD Vance to be his pick for vice president.

"We knew each other at Yale Law School, though not very well," said Rep. Matt Blumenthal, of Stamford, a Democrat and a 2015 Yale Law School graduate. Vance graduated in 2013, and both men served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

"We were both members of the Yale Law School Veterans Association. That was a small group, and I was actually president two years after him. He had a reputation as a very savvy and very ambitious person," Blumenthal said.

Blumenthal, who does not support the Trump-Vance ticket, said Vance expressed "moderate" political views when he was studying at Yale, but has since "contorted" his views to align with Trump's.

Another Yale Law School graduate, who asked not to be identified, said she supports Vance because he brings "youth and energy" to the ticket.
