The New York Yankees will honor Fairfield National, who placed third at the Little League World Series, before tonight’s game at Yankees Stadium.
Manager Brian Palazzolo says he got a call from the Yankees on his way back from Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
"The phone is ringing and it's New York Yankees. I was like, ‘What? Could this be possible?’" said Palazzolo.
"It's definitely really cool because we're going to meet the Yankees and go to the game with all my friends," said his son Brian.
Fairfield was 4-0 before it lost in the U.S. championship and then beat Aruba for third place at the Little League World Series.
It was nearly 50 years since a team from Connecticut advanced that far in the tournament – making Fairfield's achievement one for the history books.
"We opened people's eyes around the country on how well this group of boys play baseball and I couldn't be more proud of them," said the manager.
It was almost exactly 12 years ago to the day when Westport Little League visited Yankees Stadium after their trip to the Little League World Series. Now that Fairfield's season is over the manager's son Brian, a math whiz, is already getting offers for actuarial internships.
"We got a lot of letters and emails, like, wanting to like put me in the paper," said the younger Brian.
He will be featured in an upcoming actuary magazine article.
Thousands welcomed the team back from the LLWS last month during a parade down the Post Road.
