The City of Yonkers is once again applying for New York state’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative, a $10 million grant aimed at transforming its growing waterfront. Proposed projects include a new pedestrian bridge, an extended waterfront esplanade and a public marina — all designed to boost recreation and economic development.
City planners say the goal is to create a more connected, inclusive downtown.

But at a community listening session held at the Yonkers Public Library, residents voiced concerns about traffic, parking, sewage, and displacement. Some questioned whether new projects will truly serve the people already living there.
Yonkers must submit its DRI grant proposal by Nov. 7. The city is encouraging residents to share feedback online as the race for revitalization continues.
