Family members are coping with the loss of a loved one who was pulled from an icy pond last week in Bridgeport's Beardsley Park.
James Freeman, 50, was pulled from the waters of Bunnell Pond on Jan. 31. Police say Freeman was pronounced dead at the scene.
His brothers and daughter and other loved ones describe Freeman as hardworking, deeply religious and very family-oriented.
"He was a wonderful God-loving person, there was not one thing you could say bad about him," says Marvin Freeman.
The family noticed Freeman was missing last Tuesday. Two days later, police dragged his unclothed body from the water.
"It don't make sense, there's so many unanswered questions," says daughter Keshia Bush. "I keep trying to make sense of it, but it's not coming together for me."
Police Chief AJ Perez stopped by the family's house this morning to share his condolences, saying the cause of death remains under investigation.
"It was a very tragic event that took place on a very cold day," said Perez.
As police look for answers, Freeman's family wants the world to know he had caring heart that touched every person he met.
"We have no idea what happened," says Marvin Freeman. "He was a fun-loving person, he had no enemies, he had no reason to fear anything. He just loved God and this is like a mystery to us."
