A 9-year-old boy was stabbed in the groin by a classmate and received six stitches at the hospital, his mom says.
The incident happened at Wilbur Cross School in Bridgeport on Tuesday.
The boy's mother says her son went to the hospital and received six stitches after a classmate, whom she describes as a "bully," stabbed the child in the groin with a pencil on campus during school hours. She says two other students were involved in a fight, and her son tried to break it up.
"One of the classmates had slammed my child to the floor then went, got a pencil and came back and stabbed my child in his private area," says the victim's mother, who asked not to be identified.
She says she got a call from the school, saying her son had been hurt and should come to the school immediately. But at that point nobody had called for help, so she took her son to Bridgeport Hospital.
Police tell News 12 they and the Board of Education are investigating the incident and cannot comment further.
The child's mother says she wants to make sure the person who is behind the incident gets counseling because she had bullied her son in the past.
"He really needs to get help. That's what I really hope the bigger outcome is -- that he gets all the help he needs," the boy's mother says.
The victim's mom says she will not let her son return to school next week unless the superintendent can assure her he will be safe.
