Bridgeport primary battle reaches judge's lap
State Representative Chris Caruso's legal challenge of the Bridgeport primary went to the judge for a decision Tuesday.
Caruso is challenging September?s Democratic mayoral primary. He lost to state Senator Bill Finch by 270 votes. The case wrapped up with closing arguments Monday.
Caruso claims about 15 state statutes concerning election laws were violated on Election Day, mainly in decisions made by the registrar of voters. He wants a new primary. However, the general election is fast approaching.
The judge could rule to move the election in order to give candidates enough time to prepare. The judge has 10 days to make his ruling, but an appeal is expected no matter what decision is made.
