Many Connecticut churches are streaming services live as they have been forced to not hold public Mass to protect parishioners during the coronavirus pandemic.
Father Jeffrey Couture at St. Francis of Assissi in Weston says he's been impressed with the online participation for his weekly Mass at 11 a.m. He says there are three to four times as many people tuning in every day as there were coming to church.
Father Sam Kachuba at St. Pius the 10th in Fairfield says the church will continue to work to find creative ways for people to keep the faith. Mass can be watched on Facebook Live and on the church's website.
Father Kachuba says this is a time to stay more connected than ever, and that even if churchgoers cannot physically be together, they can still stand united.
St. Pius the 10th is still allowing people to come in for confession in a conference room where a person can sit 6 feet away from a priest.
The bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport, Frank Caggiano, says he's happy Christians are utilizing a new electronic medium for services.
Leaders of the Diocese of Bridgeport met Monday to discuss their plan for Holy Week and Easter Mass. They say they will announce a decision later this week.
