A car attempted to merge onto I-95 north in Norwalk caused Thursday's fire that damaged an I-95 overpass in Norwalk, state police say.
Police say a Chevrolet Camaro LT was driving in the right lane when it tried to merge into the right center lane. It hit the front end of a Standard Petroleum Company tanker truck.
As a result of that collision, the tanker veered into the left center lane and hit a tractor-trailer.
The tanker burst into flames underneath the Fairfield Avenue overpass.
The drivers were not injured. All three vehicles were towed from the scene.
Police say no enforcement action has been taken yet because the investigation is ongoing.
Crews made significant progress Saturday and the Fairfield Avenue overpass was fully demolished by Saturday afternoon.
