The City of Torrington has announced its first coronavirus-related death.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of this individual," said Mayor Elinor Carbone in a statement. "Out of respect for the privacy that this family deserves at this time, there is little information that we can provide, however, I can share that this individual was an elderly adult."

Carbone pushed for residents to continue social distancing to limit the spread of coronavirus.

"One small change in our social behavior will reap far greater benefits in the reduction of the spread of this virus," said Carbone. "Social distancing and personal care, like washing your hands, covering your cough, and staying home if you are sick, are critical to protecting you, your family and friends from this virus."
