Connecticut leaders are condemning the recent string of attacks on the Jewish community.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal spoke out about the attacks saying, "We need stronger laws, tougher penalties, more stringent prosecution against hate crimes."
Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim also condemned the attacks, tweeting that police have stepped up patrols at houses of worship throughout the city.
"I think I speak for all of us in the city of Bridgeport that we stand in solidarity not only with the Jewish community, but people of all faiths," Ganim says. "Attacks on houses of worship, or individuals or families while they're doing prayer as we've seen in New York... is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in the city of Bridgeport."
In New York, U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer says that the Jewish community must be protected during a rally in West Nyack where people chanted, "Nothing is going to stop us from being Jewish."
"I called for quadrupling the funding to protect synagogues... and other houses of worship to provide security guards to allow them to install cameras and strong doors," Schumer says.
Jewish community leaders in Connecticut are calling for unity, saying the response to bad acts is to do good acts and stand together.
