Fairfield Health Department offers free bike share to residents
The Fairfield Health Department is encouraging residents to stay active by taking advantage of the town's free bike share program.
Health department officials say they used a federal grant to provide 10 bikes that visitors and residents can use for free.
The bikes are available at Zane's Cycles on Old Post Road. Riders have to fill out a waiver and get fitted for a bike.
Officials say the program is a pilot for a possible regional bike share in cooperation with other towns like Stratford and Bridgeport.
They also say downtown Fairfield was the perfect place to try out the communal ridership concept.
The bikes also come with helmets and locks for safety.
