Fairfield Police Chief Chris Lyddy has retired from the Fairfield Police Department, ending a 38-year-career.

A ceremony to honor his nearly four decades of service was held Thursday.

Lyddy was first introduced to the Fairfield Police Department in 1976 when he joined the Fairfield Police Explorer Program as a teen.

During his college years, he was hired as a special officer in town working the summer and holiday seasons.

After college, he officially became part of the Fairfield police force in 1982 as a patrol officer.

Over the next 38 years, Lyddy would serve in several roles - from the Youth Services Division to the Investigations Division to the Special Services Division and everything in between.

He worked his way up the ranks spending nearly a decade as deputy chief.

In 2019, he became the town's 10th chief of police.
