Medical experts say this year's flu vaccine is a big disappointment.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the current vaccination being used is only 40 percent effective. The vaccine usually protects against 70 to 90 percent of flu bugs.

Doctors say this cold season has been particularly bad.

"In my thirty years experience as a physician, this is the worst upper respiratory and influenza season I have ever seen," says Dr. George Iannini, an Internist at Westport Family Health.

Unlucky residents that are struck by the flu may encounter a stronger bug than usual. Iannini says the Type A strain currently being passed around is more resistant to anti-flu remedies than in recent years.
