Greenwich police want dibs on captured 'dinnertime bandit'
One of America?s most sought after burglary suspects, who made his mark in Greenwich in the late 1990s, has finally been nabbed in Belgium.
Greenwich police say Alan Golder, known as the ?dinnertime bandit,? takes pride in living a life of crime. They say his arrest comes as a relief after a chase that lasted nearly a decade. According to Greenwich Police Chief James Walters, Golder would sneak into exclusive homes and steal jewelry while residents were eating dinner. Walters says Golder is responsible for 15 burglaries and seven attempted burglaries in Greenwich alone.
Before his alleged burglary spree in Greenwich, Golder had served 15 years in prison for shooting a Long Island millionaire during a botched robbery. He is also suspected of 50 other burglaries in Westchester County, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Chief Walters says he hopes Greenwich will get its hands on Golder first when he is extradited back to the U.S. It is unclear what charges Golder may be facing in Belgium.
