New Jersey health officials have confirmed five additional cases of measles in Ocean County, bringing the total number of cases to 11.
Officials say that the cases are linked to an outbreak in Lakewood.
Anyone who may have visited the office of Dr. Eli Eilenberg, located at 150 James St. in Lakewood, on Nov. 1 between 12 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. may have been exposed. Offices are trying to identify and notice people who may have been impacted by the exposure.
Measles is a highly contagious illness for people who have not had the measles vaccine. Symptoms include rash, high fever, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes. Anyone who believes that they may have contracted the illness should contact a doctor before leaving their home. This will prevent any unnecessary exposure.
Symptoms could develop as late as Nov. 22.
Officials say that the outbreak is linked to a Lakewood resident who traveled overseas to Israel last month.
More information about measles and the outbreak can be found on the state health department’s website.
