Indeed.com, one of the nation's largest job-listing websites, is hiring 500 employees at its Stamford headquarters on Broad Street.

Gov. Dannel Malloy made the announcement Wednesday morning.

Stamford is currently undergoing a boom as recent college graduates flock there.

"There are lots of people who grew up here," says Indeed CFO Dave O'Neill. "They go off to college and they want to come back to the New York City area. They may not necessarily want to work in the city."

But attracting companies to the rest of Connecticut has been a challenge. Fairfield recently lost the General Electric headquarters to Boston, and Aetna is leaving Hartford for Manhattan.

"One of the things we did strategically in Stamford was to increase housing in the downtown and surrounding areas because we knew we were going to have to attract a different workforce than the folks who simply lived here," says Malloy.

The 500 new jobs will mainly be in sales. They won't be filled right away, but will be spread out over the next few years.
